Here are three things to know.
1. Mr. Hemsley, 65, became CEO of UnitedHealth in 2006. He will enter a newly created role at the company: executive chairman of the board of directors.
2. Mr. Wichmann, 54, has been president of UnitedHealth since 2014. He began overseeing the company’s insurance arm UnitedHealthcare the same year.
3. Mr. Wichmann joined the company in 1998. He served as UnitedHealth’s CFO from 2011 until mid-2016.
