Connecticut payer's computer error leads to release of members' info

Connecticut-based payer ConnectiCare said a computer system error resulted in the accidental release of personal information of 1,200 of its members, CT Insider reported May 18.

The error resulted in the release of names, member ID numbers, dates of services, claim numbers, types of services, provider names and the amounts billed, allowed and paid, according to the report. Affected members did not have Social Security numbers or any of their financial information exposed.

The computer system error occurred when a communication intended for a physician whose services are covered by ConnectiCare was emailed to the incorrect address, according to the report. The company then processed a request to reprint the explanation of payment and the system error caused the statement details to be sent to other members.

ConnectiCare determined the reprinted statements were mailed between July 2021 and March 2022, according to the report. Member information has not been misused to date.
