Cigna's Evernorth Care Group plans to cut specific specialty services and consolidate certain Arizona care locations in the next few months. The reductions will result in 261 employees being laid off, according to an Arizona WARN notice filed May 31.
The decision comes as Evernorth Care Group works to adapt to market conditions and evolve its strategy to meet patient and community needs.
Employees affected by the layoffs will be provided a severance package, including transitional services.
News of the service and workforce cuts comes after Evernorth sold seven Phoenix-based outpatient imaging centers to RadNet, a diagnostic imaging provider, in late January for an undisclosed amount.
Evernorth Care Group comprises more than 20 healthcare center locations and four urgent care centers, and it employs a one-stop-shop service model. It also has more than 150 primary and specialty care providers, according to its website.
"Evernorth Care Group remains highly committed to serving our patients in Arizona, and we will continue to provide high-quality, affordable care and exceptional service," a spokesperson for Evernorth Care Group said in a statement shared with Becker's.
