Cigna to enter Pennsylvania’s state-run health insurance market

Cigna will join Pennsylvania’s state-run health insurance marketplace, Pennie, for the 2022 plan year.

The payer has filed products that will provide coverage to residents of the Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

“With this addition, Pennsylvania now has eight insurers offering health coverage plans, the most the commonwealth has seen since the passage of the ACA,” an Aug. 3 news release said. 

Approximately 330,000 Pennsylvania residents receive coverage through Pennie, while 1.3 million residents are enrolled in coverage through the ACA.
