From unveiling a rebate-free pharmacy model to debuting a controversial new downcoding policy, here are eight updates on Cigna that Becker’s has reported since Sept. 26:

1. The Cigna Group posted a $1.9 billion profit in the third quarter of 2025, up from $739 million during the same period last year.

2. The Cigna Group’s Evernorth division introduced a rebate-free pharmacy benefit model that it says will lower medication costs and simplify drug pricing. The move could simplify drug pricing, but leaders on Cigna’s Oct. 30 earnings call warned of some potential growing pains while adjusting to the change.

3. The Cigna Group and CVS Health said they will offer discounted infertility medications through TrumpRx, beginning in January 2026.

4. Cigna agreed to settle a “ghost network” class-action lawsuit for $5.7 million.

5. Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s will stay in network with Cigna Healthcare.

6. Cigna is back in network for Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Health Care System for the first time since 2020.

7. Cigna debuted a controversial downcoding policy on Oct. 1. The policy allows Cigna to adjust some higher-level evaluation and management codes if they do not meet certain complexity standards. Critics argued the new policy will increase administrative burdens and create a barrier to appropriate reimbursement.

8. The Cigna Group named Eva Borden as chief product officer for its commercial insurance business.
