Mr. Cordani spoke at two events in Houston Wednesday presenting grants from the Cigna Foundation to area health initiatives. He said Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna had a contingency plan in place regardless of election results, as he said changes to the health law were inevitable. Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has since said repealing the ACA will be among Congress’ first task when it returns in January.
“If change [takes] place in January there are commitments made to 10 million Americans throughout fiscal year 2017 that need to be fulfilled because those individuals made decisions based on a set of rules,” Mr. Cordani told Houston Chronicle. “And society has a responsibility to fulfilling those.”
Mr. Cordani also said Wednesday the insurance industry has “a lot of activity underway.” He did not say who his company was talking with in Washington, D.C., according to the report, nor said what aspects of the law he would like to see kept or changed.
