Cigna CEO: ACA health plans perform best under ACO model

At the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco last week, Cigna CEO David Cordani said the payer's ACA health plans made the most financial sense when they networked with ACOs, reports Hartford Courant.

Mr. Cordani said despite efforts to better coordinate care through ACOs, the Bloomfield, Conn.-based payer still anticipates losses on its 2017 health plans sold through the ACA marketplace. He did not comment on what Cigna wants the new administration to do as Republican legislators push forward with efforts to repeal and replace the ACA, according to the report.

Cigna is participating in ACA exchanges in seven states this year. Cigna covered about 176,000 customers through ACA health plans in November, and anticipates adding 100,000 people to the business in 2017.
