Through pre-development loans, Centene and building developer McCormack Baron Salazar will enable around $900 million in planning and construction-related activity to accelerate the development of affordable housing.
The Centene Foundation will partner with the developer to provide predevelopment loans to low-income housing projects. The loans will enable around $900 million in construction projects, according to a May 21 news release from Centene.
The funding will support the construction of thousands of new affordable housing units, according to Centene.
Other insurers have also put significant funding behind housing projects. In May, UnitedHealth Group said it had surpassed $1 billion invested in affordable housing since 2011.
