Catastrophic claims 27% higher in southern states

Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi have the most expensive catastrophic claims, according to Sun Life Financial’s fourth annual Top Ten Catastrophic Claims Conditions report.

Catastrophic claim charges in the states were 27 percent higher than the national average, The Tennessean reported. The states saw more claims for the costliest medical conditions — including end-stage renal disease, premature births and congenital anomalies — than in any other states.
