California's Department of Managed Health Care has fined Centene's Health Net $225,000 for failure to accurately pay $1.2 million in claims to providers.

According to a March 27 news release from the department, Health Net agreed to pay the fine and paid the $1.2 million owed to providers. The Department of Managed Health Care discovered 34,433 claims Health Net did not accurately reimburse, including fines and interest.

"Failing to pay provider claims on time can impact the financial stability of providers and the overall stability of the health care delivery system," California's Department of Managed Health Care Director Mary Watanabe said. "Health Net has agreed to implement corrective actions including correcting $1.2 million in payments to impacted providers."

Health Net has more than 3 million members in California.
