California’s ACA exchange, Covered California, previously was sharing sensitive data provided by website visitors to LinkedIn through website trackers, The Markup reported in April.

Visitors to the state website had information sent to Linkedin about whether they were blind, pregnant, transgender, domestic abuse victims, or if they used a lot of prescription drugs.

A spokesperson for the marketplace told the Markup that the data was sent to LinkedIn because of an advertising campaign that began in early 2024, and that “all active advertising-related tags across our website have been turned off out of an abundance of caution.”

“Covered California has initiated a review of our websites and information security and privacy protocols to ensure that no analytics tools are impermissibly sharing sensitive consumer information,” the spokesperson told the outlet, and the marketplace will “share additional findings as they become available, taking any necessary steps to safeguard the security and privacy of consumer data.”
