Bright Health looks to increase individual premiums 49% in parts of Colorado

Bright Health is proposing rate hikes that would increase individual premiums nearly 49 percent in seven Colorado counties, according to Summit Daily.

The rate request was filed July 12 and asks for a 7.8 percent base rate increase for all individual plans, a 34 percent increase for Summit County and nearby communities, and a 2.9 percent benefit factor increase for Peak Health plans, a local purchasing group.

Bright Health's average rate increase request for 2023 for all plans is 21 percent.

A spokesperson for the state division of insurance told the Daily that the combined rate increase would result in a nearly 49 percent increase in individual premiums in Summit, Dolores, Grand, Lake, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties.

The division of insurance investigates all rate requests. It last denied a rate increase in 2010. Public comment will be accepted until Aug. 1, with final rates published in October.
