Biden administration halts Georgia plan to have private sector handle ACA marketplace

Georgia's plan to bypass the federal ACA marketplace and instead have residents shop through private agents has been suspended by the Biden administration.

An April 28 letter from HHS and CMS said Georgia's plan does not ensure coverage will be provided to a comparable number of residents and that coverage will be at least as comprehensive and affordable as in the federal marketplace.

The state has until July 28 to send a corrective action plan.

Georgia announced its intentions to leave the federal exchanges in 2020, according to NBC affiliate WXIA. That plan was approved by the Trump administration that November. The plan was to take effect in 2023.
