The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which accused BCBS of Texas of violating the ADA, said the insurer settled the lawsuit March 20. The commission filed the lawsuit after BCBS of Texas declined to settle the case outside of court.
The lawsuit accused BCBS of Texas of not accommodating a deaf applicant who claimed the insurer’s online application was inaccessible. According to the allegations, the insurer stopped communicating with the applicant after accommodations were requested, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Blue Cross did not immediately respond to the publication’s request for comment.
