Here are four things to know about Mr. Hayes.
1. Under his new role, Mr. Hayes will oversee and manage all BCBSM-branded service lines, including commercial, government and the division of medical management, pharmaceuticals, provider network contracting and health and wellness initiatives.
2. He joined BCBSM from Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna, where he served as president of the payer’s national accounts business. During Mr. Hayes’ tenure at Aetna, he also served as president of the insurer’s mid-America region and president of its government-sector and labor division.
3. Mr. Hayes also held executive positions at Nationwide and Principal Financial Group.
4. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Des Moines, Iowa-based Drake University and a master’s in business administration from St. Louis-based Webster University.
