More than 1,000 primary care providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, will be eligible for the increases, according to an April 8 BCBS Massachusetts news release. Eligible practices could see increases by as much as 30%.
BCBS Massachusetts said the funding will assist small, independent primary care practices and is not expected to increase members’ total costs.
The announcement comes after a February Massachusetts Health Quality Partners survey found the percentage of Massachusetts patients who reported being able to see their physician when needed fell to a record low in 2023, according to the release.
