Ambetter intends to sell exchange policies in Arizona’s largest counties, Maricopa and Pima, and BCBSA plans to offer exchange coverage in the state’s remaining 13 counties.
Jeff Stelnik, Blue Cross Blue Shield’s senior vice president of strategy, sales and marketing, told The Arizona Republic the payer is “starting to see some signs of stability.” In July 2016, BCBSA pulled its 2017 individual exchange plans from Maricopa and Pinal counties, a move that would have affected 44,000 policyholders. However, it later retracted its pullback in Pinal County, addressing concerns the area would have no insurer participating in the 2017 exchange.
Ambetter declined The Arizona Republic‘s request for comment.
