For its survey, the nonprofit asked 677 Americans enrolled in an employer-sponsored health plan about their deductible.
Here are six findings:
1. The average deductible has gone up. For example, in 2016 the average deductible for single coverage was $1,300 and $2,500 for family coverage.
2. Employees with high-deductible health plans saw an average deductible of $2,296 for individual coverage and $4,104 for family coverage.
3. Employees with traditional, non-high-deductible plans saw an average deductible of $932 for individual coverage and $1,931 for family coverage in 2018.
4. Julie Stich, associate vice president of content at the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, said Americans should anticipate consistent deductibles in 2019.
5. Most employers (59 percent) now offer high-deductible plans, up from 46 percent in 2014.
6. Preferred provider organization plans are offered by 73 percent of employers, and health maintenance organization plans are offered by 26 percent of employers.
