Anthem said in a statement to Bloomberg “while we are pleased that some steps have been taken to address the long-term challenges all health plans serving the individual market are facing, the individual market remains volatile.”

The payer pointed to a shrinking individual market and prolonged uncertainty surrounding federal regulations as reasons for the exits.

Anthem also decided to leave Ohio’s 2018 exchange earlier this month.
