Only three primary care physicians accept Anthem’s Pathway health maintenance organization plan in a seven-county radius around Owensboro, or a population of nearly 300,000, according to the report. A deal between Anthem and Owensboro will add 50 primary care physicians to the area and raise the number of regional specialists from 339 to 362 next year.

Anthem and Owensboro have reached an informal verbal agreement and negotiations are ongoing.
