Anthem Blue Cross funds scholarship to support medical students with disabilities

Anthem Blue Cross established a scholarship at the Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University to support disabled students seeking careers in healthcare.

The $100,000 contribution applies to students both pursuing careers in patient-facing work or in health justice.

"For decades, Anthem has been pioneering solutions to usher in a new era of healthcare that works better for everyone, and we are pleased for the opportunity to work with the Longmore Institute on Disability, to not only help students fulfill their higher education goals, but to also develop a pipeline of healthcare leaders, with disabilities, to transform health-care delivery through a person-centered approach," said Les Ybarra, president of Anthem Blue Cross' Medi-Cal health plan.

The Longmore Institute on Disability aims to challenge implicit biases targeting individuals with disabilities, including in healthcare.
