All of Michigan's insurers pledge to continue preventive coverage

All insurers operating in Michigan's individual, small and large group commercial markets have pledged to continue covering preventive care while a court ruling striking down some no-cost preventive care requirements is appealed, the Detroit Free-Press reported April 6. 

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's office told the outlet all of the state's commercial insurers said they will continue to cover care while Braidwood Management v. Becerra moves through the court system. 

On March 30, a federal judge in Texas struck down an ACA provision that requires insurance companies to provide coverage for preventive services such as certain cancer screenings and HIV prevention drugs.

On March 31, the Biden administration appealed the ruling in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

  • Oscar Insurance Company

  • Priority Health 
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • US Health and Life Insurance Company 
  • Wellfleet Insurance Company
