Aetna in the headlines: 9 recent updates

Here are nine new contracts, partnerships and other stories about the Woonsocket, R.I., based-payer Becker's has reported since Oct. 7. 

  1. Carle Health in Urbana, Ill. will treat Aetna Medicare Advantage members after the two sides reached a tentative contract agreement. The contract dispute raised concerns among Illinois state retirees, as Aetna Medicare Advantage will be the only option offered to former state employees in 2023.

  1. In-home care provider Amedisys inked a value-based contract to provide care to Aetna Medicare Advantage members. 

  1. Aetna Better Health of Virginia and managed care startup Waymark are partnering to provide community-based care services to Medicaid members. Waymark manages a network of community health workers, pharmacists, behavioral health therapists and coordinators in clinics to manage care between patients and primary care providers. Waymark will serve Aetna Medicaid members in the Richmond and Tidewater areas in 2023, with plans to expand.

  1. Aetna will offer a free subscription to Apple Fitness+ to its 3.2 million Medicare Advantage members starting next year. Fitness solutions provider Tivity Health said Oct. 20 it has partnered with Apple to offer Fitness+ subscriptions to health plans through its senior program, SilverSneakers. Aetna is the first payer to extend that offering.

  1. Banner|Aetna, a joint venture between Phoenix-based Banner Health and Aetna, introduced a "frictionless" billing process designed to reduce confusion for patients.

  1. CVS Health was ranked No. 11 on Fortune's "Change the World" list for its efforts to reduce suicide attempts among Aetna members. 

  1. Aetna will launch a new plan in the Atlanta area integrating more benefits from parent company CVS Health. The Aetna Connected Plan with CVS Health will launch in nine Georgia counties in 2023, pairing services from the Emory Healthcare Network and Northside Hospital System with expanded CVS benefits, like $0 copays at the pharmacy's Minute Clinic. 

  1. Aetna added mental telehealth provider Cyti Psychological to its networks in California and Oregon. 

  1. Aetna and Lubbock, Texas-based Covenant Health signed an in-network contract that went into effect Oct. 1, ending a dispute over reimbursement rates. The dispute left nearly 9,000 individuals without in-network coverage.
