Aetna, Humana, Elevance sign on to Biden's cancer coverage proposal

Seven insurers have pledged to cover navigation services for cancer and other serious illnesses.

The pledge is part of the Biden administration's Cancer Moonshot initiative, which aims to prevent 4 million cancer deaths by 2047.

According to a March 8 news release from the White House, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, Elevance Health, Health Alliance Plan, Humana, Priority Health and Select Health signed on to the pledge. The seven insurers will cover care navigation services for cancer, compare utilization across demographic groups and track the outcome of navigation services.

Forty cancer care systems also signed on to the pledge, signaling a commitment to providing navigation services and using new billing codes.
