Aetna gets $9.4M tax break to move HQ to NYC

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna is slated to reap $9.4 million in tax breaks as it moves its headquarters to New York City by October 2018, Reuters reports.

New York City’s industrial development agency approved the tax breaks Sept. 19. The perks are in addition to $24 million in performance-based tax credits New York state will provide Aetna over 10 years.

During the next three years, Aetna plans to transfer 200 positions from Hartford to New York City. It will also create 50 jobs at the new headquarters, according to the report.

Aetna estimates the move will cost $85 million.
