Aetna Better Health of Illinois paid $20.4 million in value-based incentive payments to 16 community health centers.

The funding is intended to improve quality of care in underserved communities, according to a May 20 news release.

Three things to know:

  1. The providers will use the funding to modernize operations, implement new population health or data analytics tools and extend clinic hours.

  2. More than half of Aetna Better Health of Illinois members see providers in value-based care arrangements. Around 1 in 4 providers are in a risk-based model.

  3. In 2024, value-based arrangements resulted in 8% fewer inpatient admissions, 15% fewer inpatient readmissions and 5% fewer emergency room visits.

Aetna Better Health of Illinois manages Medicaid benefits for more than 360,000 members.
