ACO leaders form task force on electronic sharing of clinical quality metrics

The CMS goal is to fully move to electronic clinical quality measurements by 2025, but the goal is a challenge for ACOs.

ACOs sometimes work with dozens of EHR systems and must combine data from a number of doctors’ offices, hospitals, and other providers not using the same EHR, according to an April 12 National Association of ACOs news release.

“Our EHR systems today have not yet achieved the real-world interoperable state needed to easily combine non-standardized patient data from various providers, a future requirement of CMS’s quality reporting for Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) ACOs,” Katherine Schneider, MD, said in the news release.

Dr. Schneider is leading a National Association of ACOs task force to address challenges with the transition. The group will meet with ACO leaders and other experts to identify capabilities and obstacles and generate potential solutions and recommendations that will be published in a policy paper later this year.

The task force will then meet with stakeholders, including CMS, ONC and health IT vendors, to discuss the recommendations, according to the news release.
