As exchange exits and rate hikes occur on a state-by-state or county-by-county level, senators like Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) have proposed legislation and tailored campaign ads to address the health law in their states. One of Sen. McCain’s recent television ads pictures data reflecting the number of consumers lacking health plan options as a result of insurer exchange exits.
Arizona’s Pinal County, which previously did not have a health insurer offering on-exchange, individual plans next year, recently secured Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona to sell plans.
In other state campaign efforts, Americans for Prosperity, a grassroots groups focused on lowering taxes and government regulation, sent mailers to Wisconsin voters linking former Democratic senator Russ Feingold with the ACA. In Indiana, another ad depicts former Democratic senator Evan Bayh with his vote to approve the ACA.
