The largest enrollment day for this year’s open enrollment was the original Dec. 15 deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1, with 670,000 plans selected. The previous record was 70,000 less, recorded on the same day in 2015.

CMS said total plan selections from Nov. 1 through the extended deadline for Jan. 1 coverage of Dec. 19 include 2.1 million new customers and 4.3 million returning enrollees. This total does not include consumers whose coverage will be automatically renewed for Jan. 1.
