It's been a busy May for Blue Cross Blue Shield companies hiring and promoting new executives, and the public health director from a major city is joining Humana Medicaid. These are nine recent payer executive moves.

BCBS Association names new chief human resources officer

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association named Lynn Merritt as its new chief human resources officer. Ms. Merritt started May 9 and is based in BCBSA's Chicago office. 

Clover Health names CEO of value-based care

Franklin, Tenn.-based Clover Health appointed Aric Sharp as CEO of value-based care May 9, where he will lead all value-based care operations for the company including for the contracting arm, Clover Health Partners.

Arkansas BCBS hires, promotes 5 new execs

On May 9, Erin Maxwell, who has been with the company since 2005, was named lead executive of customer service. David Jarnagin, who has been with the company since 2017, was named lead executive of customer accounts and membership. Delena Hicks has been promoted to director of corporate compliance. Anjenette Fenske has been hired as director of Medicare Advantage compliance. Sheila Colclasure has been elected to the company's board of directors.

Waymark taps 2 top execs from Aetna, Anthem to grow value-based Medicaid line

On May 5, San Francisco-based Waymark named former Aetna Medicaid executive David Livingston as head of growth and former Anthem Medicaid executive Dana Thomas as growth partnerships leader. 

Regence BCBS Oregon names new vice president of sales

Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon named Renee Balsiger its new vice president of sales April 26 following Jim Walton's retirement after more than 15 years with Regence.

Humana names public health director as chief medical officer of Medicaid line in Kentucky

Sarah Moyer, MD, has been named chief medical officer for Humana's Medicaid business in Kentucky, Humana Healthy Horizons, effective July 5. Since 2017, Dr. Moyer has served as director and chief health strategist of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness.

MACPAC adds 4 members

Government Accountability Office head Gene Dodaro appointed four new members to the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission May 2. Joining the commission are: 

Partnership HealthPlan of California COO Sonja Bjork, Milliman principal and consulting actuary Jennifer Gerstorff, University of Utah's Spencer Fox Eccles, University of Utah's School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics chair and Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital CMO Angelo Giardino, MD, Providence Population Health Management President Rhonda Meadows, MD. Mr. Dodaro also reappointed two members to the commission: Georgetown University Center for Children and Families fellow and McCourt School of Public Policy professor Tricia Brooks and Massachusetts Disability Policy Consortium researcher Dennis Heaphy.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts named Jake Biscoglio as senior vice president of commercial products and customer solutions May 2.

Blue Shield of California taps new senior VP

Blue Shield of California named Tim Lieb senior vice president of commercial markets May 2.
