The first four days of ACA open enrollment saw 601,000 people register for coverage, almost double the amount of signups from the same period last year.

For the first 12 days of last year’s enrollment, 84,000 people signed up per day, compared to 150,000 people per day for the first four days of this enrollment period, according to The Hill. There is no data limited to last year’s first four days.

The early days of this year’s enrollment also saw 137,000 new consumers and 464,000 people renewing their coverage.

Many analysts predicted a drop in enrollment this year because of a 90 percent reduction in the ACA’s advertising budget and an enrollment period shortened from 12 weeks to six. It remains to be seen if the increased signup rate will maintain throughout the rest of the enrollment period, which ends Dec. 15.
