The agency on July 28 published marketplace enrollment data from April, the first month of Medicaid unwinding.

The federal marketplace received 67,989 applications from people with previous Medicaid and CHIP enrollment, and state-based marketplaces received 73,329 applications. On the federal marketplace, 43,848 were enrolled in a qualified health plan, and on the state marketplace, 9,756 enrolled in qualified health plans.

In April, 814,894 beneficiaries’ Medicaid coverage was terminated, according to CMS data. Around 75 percent of beneficiaries were terminated for procedural reasons, rather than being determined ineligible for the program.

CMS is ramping up efforts to connect those who have lost Medicaid coverage to ACA plans, Jeff Grant, deputy director for operations at CMS’ Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, said on a July 17 call with stakeholders.

“We’ve got to get outreach and communication in place to get people to our front door so that they actually do see the affordability options that are there for them and can make an appropriate choice,” Mr. Grant said.
