5 recent payer lawsuits, settlements

Here are five lawsuits, settlements and legal developments involving payers that Becker's has reported since May 22: 

1. CMS must recalculate the Medicare Advantage star ratings for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, a federal judge ruled. 

2. Humana's challenge to a CMS rule implementing stricter auditing standards on Medicare Advantage plans can continue, a federal judge ruled.

3. A federal appeals court ruled that a lower court did not abuse its broad discretion by granting Cigna a request for a preliminary injunction barring a former executive from taking a job at CVS Health while a lawsuit over her noncompete clause moves forward. 

4. SCAN Health Plan won its lawsuit against CMS that claimed the agency improperly calculated the payer's 2024 Medicare Advantage star rating.

5. UnitedHealth Group said a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging an AI algorithm wrongfully denied Medicare Advantage patients care should be dismissed because "plaintiffs have failed to exhaust the exclusive administrative appeal process set by the Medicare Act for challenging coverage determinations."
