5 payers sign White House healthcare climate pledge

Several payers are among the more than 100 healthcare organizations signing on to the White House and HHS’ Health Sector Climate Pledge.

According to a news release published Nov. 10, organizations signing the pledge commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions by 2050. 

“The organizations that signed the pledge are demonstrating to the health sector that climate smart investments are not only possible, but are becoming standard for the industry,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in the release. 

The payers signing the pledge include: 

  • Elevance Health (formerly Anthem)  
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
  • Blue Shield of California 
  • Excellus Health
  • Kaiser Permanente
