3 state actions on Medicaid work requirements

Here are three states seeking or implementing work requirements for their Medicaid programs:

1. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders asked the federal government for a waiver to create work requirements for the state's Medicaid program. The proposal would require people to work, go to school or volunteer in order to be eligible for benefits.

2. South Dakota voters passed a Medicaid expansion measure in November, state lawmakers recently proposed a ballot issue that would add work requirements to the expansion. If the tentative resolution passes, voters would be asked in the 2024 election whether to impose the requirement on any eligible person "who is able-bodied."

3. Georgia's Medicaid work requirement program is set to begin July 1. The program will require enrollees to complete 80 hours of work, job training, education or community service per month to receive Medicaid coverage.
