For the list, Fortune surveyed more than 870,000 employees to obtain confidential quantitative and qualitative feedback. The employees responded to 60 statements on a five-point scale and answered two open-ended questions. Fortune’s survey aimed to understand employees’ experience and included questions about trust, respect, credibility, fairness, pride and camaraderie.
Anthem was the first health insurer that made the list, at No. 57. Blue Shield of California was the second health insurer on the list, at No. 66. The third health insurer to make the list was Mutual of Omaha, at No. 84.
