Of the remaining uninsured Americans, KFF estimates 53 percent are eligible for financial assistance to get coverage through Medicaid or a subsidized health plan on the public marketplace. This equates to about 14.6 million people.

Specifically, 6.8 million of the nation’s uninsured are eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Roughly 7.9 million of the uninsured population are eligible for premium tax credits to buy health plans on the public marketplace.

The remaining uninsured who are ineligible for Medicaid or subsidized coverage include those within states opposing Medicaid expansion; those with incomes above the subsidy threshold; and those ineligible due to immigrant status.
