Harbor Health, an Austin, Texas-based insurer that also runs its own medical clinics, plans to acquire 27 Village Medical primary care clinics in the Houston area.

The deal is expected to close at the end of the year, according to an Oct. 6 news release, and financial terms were not disclosed. Once the deal closes, Harbor will operate nearly 70 clinics and more than double its count of physicians and advanced practice providers.

The company offers large employer plans in 29 Texas counties, including the four Houston-area counties. It will also offer individual and family plans on the Texas exchange in 13 of those counties for 2027.

Village Medical is the clinic brand of VillageMD, which Walgreens previously owned a majority stake in. VillageMD has operated as a standalone company since private equity firm Sycamore Partners took Walgreens private in August 2025, while Cigna continues to hold a minority stake. Harbor also bought 32 VillageMD clinics in Austin, Dallas, El Paso and San Antonio in September 2025.
