Pharmacy benefit managers LucyRx and Abarca Health completed their strategic combination, according to an Aug. 20 news release.

Across commercial and government markets, the PBMs serve more than 9 million members total. The companies now operate as wholly owned subsidiaries of Healthcare Revolution Partners. They still maintain their independent brands, leadership and client relationships.

The combination unifies LucyRx’s employer focus and clinical capabilities with Abarca’s integrated claims and benefits platform, Darwin, and its knowledge of the government, regulatory, compliance and health plan landscape.

The PBMs announced the transaction in June amid “Big 3” competition from CVS Caremark, Cigna’s Express Scripts and UnitedHealth Group’s Optum Rx.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
