North Dakota regulators signed off on an affiliation between BCBS North Dakota and Cambia Health Solutions Jan. 23, a news release said.

The affiliation is set to take effect Feb. 1.

“Reaching this milestone puts us one step closer to better serving members, customers and communities through shared innovation, expertise and resources,” Cambia President and CEO Jared Short said. “We look forward to welcoming our North Dakota colleagues and working together to ensure a smooth integration as we create a system that makes healthcare easier and lives better for the people we serve.”

The insurers announced the strategic affiliation in August, which would bring BCBS under Cambia’s management while maintaining a local presence. BCBS North Dakota’s CEO will become chief administrative officer at Cambia under the agreement, while Lacey Bergh will serve as the market president. Five other executive moves are slated to take place, as well.

“We are excited about moving forward and the opportunities integration brings to improve how we support the members who count on us every day to simplify healthcare,” BCBS North Dakota President and CEO Dan Conrad said.

Cambia’s affiliation with BCBS North Dakota is not a standalone case. In November, BCBS Arkansas and Cambia confirmed a pending affiliation. Cambia — founded by BCBS licensees in 1995 — already offers management services to Regence Blues plans throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah.
