Elevance Health to acquire ambulatory infusion business Paragon Health

Elevance Health plans to acquire Paragon Healthcare, which operates infusion centers and specialty pharmacies.

According to a Jan. 4 news release from Elevance Health, the company will operate as part of CarelonRx, the pharmacy services segment in Carelon, Elevance's healthcare services arm.

Plano, Texas-based Paragon Healthcare has more than 40 ambulatory infusion centers in eight states, serving more than 35,000 patients on-site and in their homes. In the news release, Elevance said it will expand Paragon's geographic footprint after the acquisition.

"Together, Elevance Health and Paragon Healthcare will have the ability to provide members with greater choice on the most appropriate site of care options, such as ambulatory or in-home locations, which will remove barriers to care and better support members' whole health," Pete Haytaian, executive vice president of Elevance Health and president of Carelon, said.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2024, Elevance said.
