During Becker’s Fall 2024 Payer Issues Roundtable, at an executive roundtable sponsored by FitOn Health, two FitOn company leaders — Ed Buckley, CEO, and Todd Slawter, chief strategy officer — led a discussion about how FitOn Health’s companion app supports health plans’ weight loss initiatives.
Three key takeaways were:
- FitOn Health’s offering is part of an all-in-one program. The program includes nutrition coaching, personalized exercise plans, cooking recipes and a community support platform. Those features are bundled into a 12-week program that FitOn Health offers to payers, who can then access real-time feedback to see how participating members are advancing.
- Members on anti-obesity GLP-1 medications can benefit from using FitOn Health’s app. An increasing number of people are turning to GLP-1 prescription medications to aid in their weight loss journeys. FitOn Health’s app is designed to complement a GLP-1 treatment regimen. “Health plans are looking to create a program to either wrap around the member as a parallel program or accompany them when they are off a medication or intervention,” Mr. Buckley said.
- FitOn Health usespersonalization as a strategy to make its program a success for both health plans and members. To help health plans with coverage decisions for GLP-1 drugs, the app personalizes certain healthy lifestyle goals, such that only plan members that attain those goals may qualify for drug coverage — if a payer chooses to use such criteria to design their policy, of course. To help plan members achieve those targets, FitOn Health’s app also uses reminders and accountability nudges to keep individuals on track.
