Waymark taps 2 top execs from Aetna, Anthem to grow value-based Medicaid line

Waymark has named former Aetna Medicaid executive David Livingston as head of growth and former Anthem Medicaid executive Dana Thomas as growth partnerships leader.

The San Francisco-based company designs new technology and service delivery models for providers to improve Medicaid costs and care outcomes. Waymark also partners value-based models with Medicaid health plans to complement existing Medicaid providers, which is where Mr. Livingston and Ms. Thomas will direct their efforts, according to a May 5 press release.

Mr. Livingston joins Waymark from Aetna Better Health, where he served as CEO in Illinois and Kansas and as a regional Medicaid leader. He has also served as president of Meridian Health Plan of Illinois and as CEO of UnitedHealthcare's Michigan Medicaid plan. In these roles, he had oversight of operations, provider networks, program implementation and business development strategy.

Ms. Thomas comes to Waymark from Anthem's government business division, where she served as growth director of the Medicaid line.

"David and Dana's experience as senior health plan operators will accelerate Waymark's growth and demonstrates our commitment to cultivating partnerships that produce meaningful results for provider and plan partners," CEO and co-founder Rajaie Batniji, MD, PhD, said. "Both David and Dana have deep first-hand experience with the issues that MCOs, states and Medicaid providers are working to solve, and will be instrumental in ensuring we can meet the aims of our partners."
