Matt Hocks is taking over managing Sanford Health Plan and Security Health Plan, according to a Jan. 7 news release.

Mr. Hocks, executive vice president and COO of Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health, joined the system in 2004. He worked with the system’s former health plan leader and recently tapped Chief Transformation Officer Tommy Ibrahim, MD, to align care delivery and coverage. In his new role, Mr. Hocks will also chair a value-based care committee to further this alignment.

“Matt’s deep experience leading care delivery operations positions him well to advance our integrated care and coverage strategy, which is a core enterprise priority for 2026,” Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen said. “Stronger alignment across our system creates new opportunities to better serve patients and members through more seamless, coordinated care. Our health plan team remains a critical partner in this work, and we are grateful for their continued leadership as we build toward long-term sustainability.”

Sanford Health and Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System merged at the beginning of 2025, bringing the two health plans under one umbrella.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
