Premera Blue Cross exec named CEO of interoperability startup

Healthcare interoperability startup Opala has named Ken Chandler as CEO, effective July 1. Mr. Chandler was previously senior vice president of national accounts at Premera Blue Cross.

At Premera, Mr. Chandler was responsible for an $8.9 billion business portfolio composed of the payer's largest and most complex employer clients. During that time, he also served as chairman of the Consortium of Health Plans board of directors and as CEO of Vivacity, a Premera-owned wellness company, according to a June 16 news release.

Mr. Chandler joins Seattle-based Opala after a year of significant growth. He will lead initiatives to streamline the company's healthcare data exchange and support the expected launch of products to improve value-based contracts and that satisfy CMS interoperability mandates for health plans by the end of 2022.
