Oscar snags 2 more Aetna execs

Oscar Health has named two former Aetna leaders to its executive team.

Kerry Sain, former chief commercial growth officer for Aetna, was appointed as executive vice president of +Oscar, the company's technology platform for healthcare clients.

"I believe Kerry's leadership, combined with Oscar's member engagement and technology superpowers, will set +Oscar up for continued expansion," Oscar Health CEO Mark Bertolini said in Sept. 6 news release.

Steven Kelmar, senior vice president of strategy implementation at CVS Health, will be executive vice president and chief of staff to the CEO, effective Sept. 14.

Mr. Kelmar was previously chief of staff and executive vice president and head of strategy in the CEO's office at Aetna from 2008 to 2018.

Mr. Bertolini was CEO of Aetna from 2011 to 2018. He took the top job at Oscar Health in April. In the release, Mr. Bertolini said he worked with Ms. Sain and Mr. Kelmar during his time leading Aetna.

"Steve brings an incredible track-record of accelerating business value creation and performance. He is a long-time, trusted colleague who is joining at a pivotal moment in Oscar's history — with strategic targets, like achieving profitability, within reach," Mr. Bertolini said.

Founded in 2012, Oscar Health has yet to turn a profit.

In March, Mr. Bertolini told the Wall Street Journal he was focused on ensuring that Oscar Health's insurance business is profitable in 2023 and the entire company turns a profit in 2024.
