The CEO of the largest publicly operated health plan will retire at the end of 2024.
John Baackes, CEO of L.A. Care, plans to step down from the helm of the Medicaid managed care plan at the end of the year, according to an April 12 news release. He has been CEO since 2015.
"I am proud of all that we have accomplished at L.A. Care during my time with this pioneering agency and am eager to watch it continue to grow and evolve to meet our community's health needs," Mr. Baackes said.
Before joining L.A. Care, Mr. Baackes led AmeriHealth Caritas' Medicare Advantage unit.
The organization has commenced a national search for Mr. Baackes' successor, according to the news release. L.A. Care has 2.9 million Medicaid managed-care members in Los Angeles County.
