Independence Health Group, the parent company of Independence Blue Cross, has named Kelly Munson as its next president and CEO, effective Oct. 1.
Ms. Munson will succeed Gregory Deavens, who is retiring in January, according to an Aug. 4 news release. Mr. Deavens has served as president and CEO of the Philadelphia-based company since 2021.
Ms. Munson currently serves as president and CEO of AmeriHealth Caritas, a jointly owned subsidiary of Independence Health Group and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She assumed that role in February 2024 and previously served as president of Aetna Medicaid. She also previously served as executive vice president and chief Medicaid officer of WellCare Health Plans.
In addition to her new role, Ms. Munson will maintain an oversight role at AmeriHealth Caritas.
Mr. Deavens will remain with Independence Health Group through December to support the leadership transition, according to the release.
