Gold Kidney Health Plan taps 2 UnitedHealth veterans

Gold Kidney Health Plan has tapped two UnitedHealth veterans to assist with the company’s national growth.

Leigh Cantrell will serve as health plan chief growth officer and Carrie Knowles-Atkinson will serve as senior vice president and executive director, according to a Sept. 20 Gold Kidney news release. Gold Kidney is a Medicare Advantage insurer offering chronic special needs plans.

Ms. Cantrell will lead the company’s lead efforts to increase net membership in Arizona and Florida, according to the release. She most recently served as Southeast region vice president of Medicare sales for Cigna, according to her LinkedIn page. Before that, she spent more than 10 years at UnitedHealthcare, including nearly seven years as a senior sales director, setting the company’s strategic direction for the Georgia market.

Carrie Knowles-Atkinson will lead Gold Kidney’s network provider strategy and the health plan in Florida, according to the release. She most recently served as a senior advisor at Oliver Wyman and as national vice president of network development at Bright Health, according to her LinkedIn page. Prior to that role, she spent more than 17 years at UnitedHealth Group, including as national vice president of provider networks for OptumServe.  

The pair join fellow UnitedHealth veteran Gregg Kunemund, who was named COO in May. He previously served as health plan CEO of UnitedHealthcare Medicare/Medicaid Health Plan.
