CareFirst names director of public health

CareFirst of Maryland, a Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliate, has tapped Djinge Lindsay, MD, to be its first director of public health.

Dr. Lindsay, a board-certified family physician, brings nearly 20 years of medical and public health experience, according to a March 24 news release emailed to Becker's.

Dr. Lindsay will lead a new public health infrastructure team focusing on improving health outcomes and health equity in all aspects of the health experience, according to the release. CareFirst will serve as a partner with local health organizations, health departments, academic institutions and employers to develop strategies to improve accessibility, affordability and quality of care in the region.

Dr. Lindsay most recently served as CareFirst's Community Health Plan District of Columbia medical director. She previously served as the District of Columbia Health Department deputy director for community health.

"Having grown up in a marginalized community, I’ve made my life’s work caring for people that have been underserved or experienced poor outcomes in the healthcare system," Dr. Lindsay said in the release. "There is so much more we can do for people to be healthy."
